FFMA Clay Pigeon Shoot - August 2010

by Esther Smith - aka Top Gun

The clay pigeon shooting day arrived and the weather was good. I was thoroughly looking forward to it, even though I had never had a go before. Not knowing quite what was involved; we all paid our entry fees (in aid of the Huntington 's disease charity) and received our box of cartridges. Nobody wanted to be the one to go first, so I stepped forward and received my instructions from our very able FFMA safety marshals (Tim Coppin and Alex Strong).

The first clay was released in to the air from further down the hill - I missed. Never mind, I kept going, until suddenly it clicked; the best bit to aim for. I was nearly out of cartridges, but that was ok as I had hit almost half of the clays, I was quite pleased.

Purchasing more cartridges, I attempted the harder clay pigeon shot at the other end of the field, even though I didn't think I would be able to shoot these, as they were much faster and being released from next to me. After my safety talk, I was put under pressure to see if I could shoot both clays as they were launched across the sky in front of me. To my absolute amazement I managed to shoot both clays. This happened time and time again. I had a really great day, and even managed to win a prize. Apparently I have earned the nickname Top Gun since this day!!!

All money raised will go to a good cause. Thanks to everyone who organized and made sure the event was a safe day.
